What should I do if my video will not play?

There are many things that can affect the quality of your video so we have put together these instructions to help you review all the things that need to be tested in order to trouble-shoot video quality.

The first thing we want to assure you is that we have done everything possible to make sure that our videos will play well.  Our videos are hosted in the cloud by Akamai.  Akamai has servers around the world to make sure that your videos are sent from the server that is closest to you.  By hosting our videos with Akamai we make sure that you receive the highest video quality. If you are experiencing video buffering or freezing at home or at the office there are a number of things you can do to help us troubleshoot.

  • Proper Video Quality: Although the player will attempt to match the video quality with your bandwidth, you may find that setting your video quality manually will give you better performance.
  • Popup Blockers: Please check to make sure that your pop-up blocker is turned off when you go to our website. This will prevent the video window from opening.
  • Your Connection Speed: Internet speed needs to be 2.0 Mbps upload and download to successfully watch the videos.  You will want to check and see if your connection speed is 2.0 Mbps or higher.  You can do this by clicking on this link and running a speed test.
  • Jitter and Packet Loss: Your Jitter rate lets us know if your connection speed is consistent while your Packet Loss rate lets us know if your internet connection could be losing pieces of the video.
    • Go to https://www.dotcom-tools.com/ping-test.aspx to determine if there is any Jitter or Packet Loss on your connection.
    • This is measured by a letter scale with A being the best.
      • If your Packet Loss is below a B, your connection is losing pieces of the video and causing the video to skip.
      • If your Jitter is below a B, your connection speed is very inconsistent and may be changing while you are watching the video which will result in buffering issues.
      • If either of these is the case you will need to contact your internet provider.
  • Shared Internet Connection: If you are on a shared internet connection, test playing videos during non-peak hours when usage by others on your network is low.
  • Reset Your Browser: If you've tried all the previous steps, your browser may be retaining data that needs to be deleted, and this requires a reset. If you are using Chrome, use the instructions in this link to reset your browser. If you are using Internet Explorer (IE) you may need to reset it. You can do this by clicking on the cog icon on the top right of your page. Then click on tools, internet options, advanced and reset. If you are using Firefox, use the instructions in this link to reset your browser.
  • Other things to check:
    • At home or at work, test using different browsers and computers to see if you get the same result.
      • Make sure you have the latest version of the browser you are using.
    • If you are using Internet Explorer (IE) you may need to reset it. You can do this by clicking on the cog icon on the top right of your page. Then click on tools, internet options, advanced and reset.
    • Try from a different location using a different network.
    • If you are on a wireless connection try a wired solution.
    • If you are on a home network:
      • Test playing the videos when you are the only user on the network.
      • Try by-passing your router to eliminate it as the point of failure. A direct plug from your ISP to your computer will take care of this and will make sure that neither your router nor other users are affecting your connection.
    • If you are running Firefox, you can check your plugins here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
  • Make sure you do not have any other programs open. File sharing and peer to peer sharing programs, even when limited to low bandwidth, can make it almost impossible to stream properly.
  • Tracking Progress on Mobile Devices: The GogoTraining site is designed to use the native player found in your browser. If you are taking your course on a mobile device and want to make sure your progress is tracked, then you will need to play the videos from the native player that is in your browser. Do not download any third party apps to play the videos as they do not allow your progress to be recorded. If you have installed a third party app and want to receive a Letter of Course Attendance, then you will need to uninstall the 3rd party app or see if the app has the ability for you to disable it for certain sites.

Meet Your Instructor

Michael Ward

Michael Ward has over 10 years of experience with BusinessObjects.  He provides consulting and training services to customers throughout the world.  He is a frequently requested speaker at BusinessObjects User Group Meetings throughout North America.  Most recently, Michael presented at the BusinessObjects International User Group Meeting in Dallas, where he did 2 major presentations.  Michael Ward has over 26 years of FOCUS experience and over 25 years in consulting and training.  He has operating systems experience on a variety of platforms, including VM/CMS, MVS/TSO, VAX/VMS, AS/400, HP/UNIX, SQL/Server, PC/DOS, Windows NT/Server and many others.  For over three (3) years, from its inception, he was a presenter of a variety of topics at the Top Gun School for High Performance.  He taught all levels of FOCUS training classes, and was also a Train-The-Trainer.  Because of Michael’s extensive application experience and FOCUS technical skills, he provided high level consulting throughout the Midwest.  Michael has also worked with the FOCUS interface to DB2, SQL/DS, RDB, TERADATA, ORACLE, AS/400, and other products.  He is a certified ORACLE Master in Application Development.   He also has training and application experience in CACTUS/WebFOCUS.    

He has spoken to numerous FOCUS user groups throughout the country, and has also been heavily involved with training organizations throughout the Midwest.  Michael has done training presentations many times to the Detroit Area Trainers Association and the Northern Ohio Data Trainers Association.  He has also spoken at the national FUSE Conference several times.  At the 1993 FUSE Conference in Atlanta, Michael was voted “Best Session”.  He was the keynote speaker for the Detroit Area Trainers Association all day symposium several years ago.  He has received numerous references from customers throughout the country.  Michael holds a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Michigan.

Michael is a major supporter of Community Living Toronto, an organization that support  intellectually (and physically) challenged adults.  He sponsors annual overnight trips for groups from Toronto to attend various sporting events in the Detroit area, and helps cover the costs for the groups.

Course Description

SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence 4.2, the latest version of the software, is a big change from the previous version.  Because of the large number of new features in v4.2, we estimate 75% or more of v4.2 is brand new, getting trained in v4.2 is critical.  V4.2 contains features unlike any you have ever seen before.  In fact, it is almost like starting over.

The new software allows you to build more extensive and complex reports utilizing the many new features.  You will learn how to create very cool visualizations utilizing just Web Intelligence and not have to use any other product.  You will create documents with multiple data sources including Excel and FreeHand SQL as well as learn how to update Excel data sources.

The learning curve on the new software is steep.  In SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligences Report Design Level 1 and Level 2 classes, taught by SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence Reporting Expert, Michael Ward, you will bypass the wasted hours of trial and error and learn how to utilize all the new features, review potential application uses and understand how to bypass all the pitfalls.  In addition, all students will receive a 50 page v4.2 SP3 User Guide.

The SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence v4.2 training program consists of two courses:  (1) SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence Report Design Level 1 and (2) SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence Report Design Level 2.  Please note that Report Design Level 1 or equivalent knowledge is required before you can take Report Design Level 2.

SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence™ 4.2 Report Design Level 2  you will learn about formulas, variables and functions, multiple data providers, advanced query filters, subqueries, drilling on reports, cross tables and charts, combination queries.  Michael will show you how to create formulas, and then convert those formulas to variables. You will learn how to create complex variables using the extensive function library, how to add multiple data providers to a document and how to merge the dimensions so the report objects synchronize properly.  Michael will teach you how perform data mining by using the drilling functionality.   You will also learn how to hide objects, blocks and cells, how to hide sections in a report, and how to link reports and charts.  There will be lab exercises throughout the course to help you practice what you’ve learned.  Lab exercises require an in-house server running SAP BusinessObjects. Lab exercises are also demonstrated throughout the entire course.
